And while adults are usually the ones in power and who we’ll look to for change, they’re not always the most capable. Justin: When you are dealing with a story that has, at its heart, a world filled with generational violence, hate, and misunderstanding, some of the most interesting characters and people are those in a position to change the state of things. ❃❃❃ Q: “Why did you think having a fictional story about a group of children saving the world was worth telling? How did you think the audience would connect to that? What were some of the most challenging parts of creating the series? What do you hope the audience picks up from the series?” And what if one kind of people or peoples were born naturally connected to magic, and another group was not? What would that world look like? ![]() And what if there were a much easier kind? One with a shortcut, but a large drawback. What if there was a very difficult magic? One that required years of hard work and dedication and talent to use and master. But the main kick off, as it were, for The Dragon Prince was when we started talking about kinds of magic. Justin: There were and are many different inspirations, such as playing D&D as kids, reading all kinds of fantasy books, TV, movies, you name it. ![]() We’ll be taking a short break on further Q&A’s for now, but will be using the downtime to develop more engaging programs (as well as more opportunities to connect with our cast, crew, and creative team) to host on our Discord server in the near future! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our ROUND 1 (Characters & Plot) and ROUND 2 (Worldbuilding & Lore) answers for more behind-the-scenes insights! We also invite you to join our official Discord server-a cozy, family-friendly community any for fans of The Dragon Prince franchise to connect, collaborate, and (of course) chat about all things Xadia.Īs a side note: Thank you so much for your patience while we navigated our team’s holidays, vacations, leaves, illnesses, and crazy production schedules to complete this final round of responses. Caleb Thomas (lead visual development artist)Ĭlick the links below to quickly jump to a specific category:.This final round features responses from members of our creative team at both Wonderstorm and Bardel Entertainment, and primarily focuses on questions related to the creative process for The Dragon Prince, as well as more general questions about the team itself: Due to the way LoD stores its backgrounds, once upscaling is completed, all of the images will need to be split apart into their component pieces before they can be used in-game, a very time-consuming process.Last (but certainly not least), here’s our ROUND 3 ANSWERS for our very first Discord Q&A! So far, a first pass has been completed on the backgrounds for most of discs 1, 3, and 4, although there is no timeline for completion. We also plan to release 4x and 2x packs that will be downscaled versions of the 8x pack. Current implementations texture dumping/injection feature are sometimes buggy, but for the most part it works. Our goal is to make an 8x resolution AI upscale of the backgrounds as a base pack and then move on to other things such as model textures, UI, and map effects afterwards. Several months of training, experimentation, interpolation, and deletion of numerous gigabytes of failed attempts later, we were able to find several model combinations that worked well for us with LoD’s prerendered backgrounds, finally allowing production to start moving forward. Additionally, we started trying out different models trained by various members of said Discord. Around this time, we discovered the GameUpscale Discord and began attempting to train our own ESRGAN models using the LoD backgrounds themselves as the training dataset. ![]() ![]() To give a little background: Initial testing for the project was done using Topaz AI Gigapixel, but further experimentation led us to transition to using ESRGAN instead, as its open nature means people are constantly improving its capabilities. And of course, we welcome help from any community members with an eye for the aesthetic and a willingness to learn and work with a team. Given the size of the undertaking, all focus is being placed first on the prerendered backgrounds. However, after months of off-and-on experimentation, the project has begun picking up speed. Progress has been a little slow to date, as everything so far has been done entirely by Black Castle Researchers Zychronix and theflyingzamboni. After seeing so much community interest in the possibility of improved visuals in Legend of Dragoon, we are excited to kick off the new year with an official announcement of our ongoing Legend of Dragoon Upscale Project! This project has actually been in the works on our community Discord server since last summer, when RetroArch introduced its WIP texture replacement feature.
